Fed: Howard must sack Tuckey, says Labor

The federal opposition has called on Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD to sack Regional ServicesMinister WILSON TUCKEY for allegedly misleading parliament.

In parliament yesterday Mr TUCKEY defended intervening to try to overturn a $193 drivingfine given to his son by South Australian police, arguing he did nothing improper.

Labor's regional services spokesman GAVAN O'CONNOR says Mr HOWARD should sack Mr TUCKEYfor breaching his ministerial code of conduct.

He's told reporters Mr TUCKEY denied pursuing his son's fine with the South AustralianPolice Minister PATRICK CONLON, when evidence shows he wrote to him three times.

Mr O'CONNOR says the HOWARD government's so arrogant it believes it can eternally misleadthe parliament.
