Spitzer wins sex offender, workers' comp bills; Legislature approves two key parts of Democratic governor's agenda for criminal, civil reform.(Main)

ALBANY - Gov. Eliot Spitzer, aka the Steamroller, got what he wanted from the Legislature Tuesday as lawmakers helped him follow through on promises to overhaul the workers' compensation system and lock up sex offenders after their prison terms end.

The Assembly passed a civil confinement bill, following Senate action Monday. Both chambers passed the workers' compensation bill Tuesday.

While workers' compensation reform, which increases the money injured employees receive while easing the burden on businesses, was hailed as a coup for the state's economy, much of Tuesday's debate centered on civil confinement. …
