NSW: Millions of Australians on edge of homelessness: charity
A leading welfare organisation has warned that millions of Australians are only onestep away from being homeless.
Mission Australia also says the type of person likely to become homeless is changing,with younger people more at risk.
The welfare group has launched its national homeless appeal, hoping to raise $1.8 millionfor the country's least privileged.
The organisation warns that more needs to be done if Australia is to avoid a homelessnessepidemic.
Mission Australia chief PATRICK MCCLURE says on any given night 300 people are sleepingon the streets of Sydney alone.
He also says women who've suffered domestic violence, people in casual work and Australiansholding down two or more jobs could be on the razor's edge of homelessness.
He says causes of homelessness include domestic violence, family breakdown, mentalillness and unemployment which put millions of Australians at risk.
